The Dr was so nice. Dallas talked directly to him and was so good. All he did was the regular look in the nose, ears and throat and listen to how Dallas sounds. He said the only way to find out what the throat looked like down there was to do the scope up thru his nose and down into his throat. They normally do it right there in the office *with no sedation or meds*. You just hold the child down and its unpleasant! Uh.... Absolutely NOT!!! By the end of the conversation I got him to come around to partial sedation or out. He said we had our choice whether to hold off on it for a few months and just do speech/voice therapy, see if it helps and if it doesn't or gets worse, then get the scope. Or get it when ever we want so that we can rule out the very rare chance that it would be a mass or cancerous etc.(which he said he doesn't feel it is, but he has to tell us all the possibilites)
What it prob. is :
1. inflammation and/or polyps from yelling, talking loud and screaming. That would mean speech therapy. If still hoarse after a certain pt could do surgery and take polyps, but if they grew from voice misuse, they would come back again until voice is used correctly.
or but not probally
2. Reflux that is down in the throat not the kind that you would even know you had. where the acid can injure/scar the cords. There is a med for that and also would still do the speech therapy.
So I have to talk to Kelly tonite and explain it all and see what he wants to do about the scope. I want to do it b/c I want to know what exactly it is and isn't but I do not want to do any un-necessary procedure on him, but I don't want to put it off on the one teeny chance it could be really really bad. I did ask if there would be other symptoms if it were cancerous and he said weight loss, having trouble breathing etc. He has none of that, so that it good.
Glad Devin was with me to remember it all. We rode in the cargo van tho. I had to sit on this low beach chair in the middle but behind the front 2 seats so that Dallas had a seatbelt and I am so sore from holding on when we made turns etc. I already hurt really really bad:( On a good note, Dallas thought the ride was great and we had the seat way back from the dash etc. so he was safe(I had no other way to get there and I don't EVER let my kids sit in the front, so this was a first in 20 yrs!)
I need to soak in the tub...Let me know what each of you would do about the scope if it was your kid. Don't worry about my feelings, I want to think this thru right.
Thanks for all the prayers! HUGS!~m
